President
Mark Whitson
Started playing pickleball in 2015 on Green Turtle Cay, Bahamas. Design Engineer for Eastport Pickleball paddles. Became a full-time player. Began playing in Bremerton in 2020 and joined the WPC Board in 2025.

Vice President
Traci Tipple
Traci started playing pickleball in the late summer of 2023. She fell in love with the game and it has become an ever larger part of her life, resulting in her new spot on the WPC Board. She has held other board positions in the past, mainly in education organizations as Treasurer, Secretary and President. Her career, which started before and resumed after, raising two daughters, was in the investment field, beginning as a stock broker in the 80's and retiring in 2022 from a wealth management firm in Seattle. Traci is fairly new to Bremerton having moved here in the spring of 2023 after spending 30 years in Gig Harbor. When she is not playing pickleball, she loves to travel, work in the garden, is an avid reader and starts almost every day with NYT's games Wordle, Connections and Spelling Bee.

Secretary
Theresa Aubin Ahrens
Chairperson of the Bremerton Blackberry Blast and Training & Clinics Committee. Theresa has been organizing beginner and drill pickleball classes with a few volunteers. Her goal is to expand our offerings into “skills & drills” sessions, intermediate + advanced classes, youth classes, and pickleball clinics for our community. These are some lofty goals, and she’s going to need a number of volunteers to make all of this happen. Please reach out to Theresa if you have any questions or would like to join this group. Theresa has also been volunteering her time on the marketing and tournament committee.

Treasurer
Gary North
An avid, almost daily, pickleball player since 2020. His obsession with the game was born during the Covid epidemic. He has run the indoor gym program with a team of folks since Westsound signed the lease and moved into the East Bremerton gym in 2022. Before Pickleball, Gary was a business executive, running multiple businesses with various titles such as EVP, COO, and President.

1st Officer
Dee Dee Ryen
In 2016 I was working at the YMCA in Gig Harbor and watched people play pickleball and thought, oh I could do that. I played Tennis in High School and College. Surprise, it was harder than it looked, but it was fun and I was hooked.
In 2022 I was looking for new places to play and stumbled on some people playing behind the Bremerton Senior Center and the people were amazing and welcoming and some of them had started to organize play and create guidelines, and Westsound Pickleball Club became a thought, a ripple and is now a 501c3 with many amazing officers and members. I was intrigued and wanted to be part of that. I would subtly eavesdrop on their conversations as much as I could. I am now proud to be a WestSound Pickleball Club (WPC) board member.
Currently, 4 WPC volunteers, myself included, are showing the teen group at the Bremerton Boys and Girls Club how to play pickleball and we have been asked by the Volunteer Manager if we would consider expanding to other Boys and Girls clubs in the area.
We are currently in need of volunteers to help in the Port Orchard area and plan to expand as we get settled and have the proper resources in place. You would need to get a Washington State Patrol Background check and pass three online classes, through the Boys and Girls club. Please let me know if you are interested in volunteering.
Prior to retiring, I had a blast working at Boeing as a Technical Designer. I loved playing on the computer and building 3D parts, creating engineering drawings, taking field trips to the airplanes, learning specs and checking the Engineer’s work. It was like playing all day. I also worked as a Health and Wellness Coach at the YMCA, after getting my Health Coaching certificate and retiring from Boeing. I was also a Technical Writer for an Internet Startup in 1999.

Will was an avid basketball player for over 40 years, playing in the City League, Shipyard League, and a few other leagues and pickup games in every gym in the county. Will took up pickleball to replace the competition and camaraderie of rec league basketball.
Will is a past President and Vice President of WPC. He coordinates WPC efforts with the City of Bremerton. Will also volunteers whenever needed to keep WPC running smoothly.
Also, Go Cougs!!

Bonnie Stormer moved here from Southern California ten years ago to be near her two children and five grandchildren in Silverdale. She is a retired event coordinator, having organized weddings, corporate events and beyond. In addition to spending time with family, she is very involved with her local church.
Bonnie started playing pickleball here nine years ago where she later met her husband, Ed. They have both enjoyed playing locally as well as around the country while traveling. Chris Meyer
Chris’ family is six generations deep in Bremerton. She spent her high school years in the very gym where we play pickleball in the rainy season. Chris retired from PSNS in 2022. When she’s not playing pickleball, she is tending to her yard or ballroom dancing.

Chris Thomas
A native of Montana, I moved to Bremerton in 2020 after 40 years of working construction in the greater Puget Sound area. Began playing pickleball after retiring and was fortunate to connect with many Westsound Pickleball members at the Sheridan Park Community Center shortly before Covid hit. Along the way, I was able see the community evolve from playing at Manette Park, to Lion's Park and East Bremerton Gym and now at Marvin Williams Recreation Center. As a new board member, I hope to help continue the WPC legacy of community involvement, creating pickleball playing opportunities and growing our sport.

Cheryl Chase
Cheryl is a retired teacher from the South Kitsap School District. She taught for 40 years in the district, with 39 of those years at South Colby Elementary School where she taught Elementary PE. She enjoyed teaching the kids the benefits of being physically fit and introducing them to a variety of activities in hopes they would find something to help keep their mind and body healthy.
Struggling to find her new purpose in life after retirement, she was introduced to pickleball and was so happy to have found a new community of friends. When not on the pickleball court, Cheryl keeps busy volunteering at the Kitsap Humane Society and at her old school. She also enjoys going to yoga and Barre classes and working in her yard. Cheryl has 3 wonderful grandchildren with whom she loves spending time.

Diane Kheriaty
My husband Chuck and I started playing pickleball to stay active during the stay-at-home orders in 2020. I love the game, but the new friendships and social activities are the real win!
During my working years, I was executive assistant to the vice president and station manager at KOMO Radio & TV in Seattle. Snow skiing, hiking, golfing, cycling, Zumba and other workouts at the YMCA and KTAC are activities I have enjoyed over the years.
I've been a Westsound Pickleball Community member since the beginning and it's now time to give back to the organization, which I hope to do as a board member.
